Grants Help Curtain Rise on Arts & Culture

Eleven local groups are to share $35,000 in arts and cultural grants from Coffs Harbour City Council that will bring new and exciting events, activities and learning opportunities to the Coffs Coast community.


This year’s funding round includes grants to develop an Our Coffs Pride Festival to celebrate the region’s LGBTIQ culture, creative art classes and dance workshops for former refugees, an orchestral workshop and performance for primary schoolchildren, a youth film festival to nurture local film-making talent, a Gumbaynggirr dance and craft programme for Aboriginal girls, a celebration of Punjabi culture that showcases dance and Sikh cultural history at Curryfest and a literature programme for schools featuring published authors.

Coffs Harbour Music Society’s Winter 2017 Subscription presents Andrey Gugnin. “The Russians have got it!” announced the Sydney International Piano Competition’s Artistic
Director Piers Lane as he got down to the final two competitors. 29-year-old Andrey Gugnin was announced as the winner of the First Prize.

Fired by the Sea

Woolgoolga Art Group is delighted to present
WAG Potters Exhibition “Fired by the Sea”  The exhibition of ceramic works encompasses a broad range of pieces including earthenware, stoneware, porcelain, functional and sculptural, wheel and hand build ceramics.  The exhibitors have been working on pieces during the year and anticipation of a great exhibition is electric.When: Friday 4 August – Thursday 31 August

South Solitary Island Lighthouse, Walking Tour & Helicopter Flights

Don’t miss your chance to explore the South Solitary Island Lighthouse this year when National Parks and Wildlife open it up for just two weekends of the year.

Fly by helicopter and land on South Solitary
Island, located 18 kilometres from Coffs Harbour. Inspect the 1880 built lighthouse keepers quarters
and imagine living in this isolated outpost. Included in this fantastic offer is an interpretive guided walking tour for one or two hours by National Parks and Wildlife Rangers and return helicopter flights.

Sydney Conservatorium of Music – Northern Tour

One of Australia’s leading pianists, David Miller AM, brings a group of the best student musicians from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music to perform at Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery.

This year’s ensemble is a string quartet with the special addition of a harpist and David himself as the accompanying pianist. The ensemble is presenting a varied program of solo, duo and chamber repertoire with a feast of works featuring Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Haydn, Bach, Ravel and Mozart.

The Experience of EOS with John Bennett

Join exhibiting artist, award-winning poet and ABC Radio National regular John Bennett as he takes you through the experience he calls Eos. Eos refers to new beginnings as light starts to overwhelm the darkness. The experience of Eos is
a fundamental part of the process of John’s photographic works.

Daunt: Four Score Years

The Art Factory is excited to be presenting the work of Nicholas Daunt in an exhibition to celebrate his painting career and a lifetime in creative industry.  Nicholas’ work, in the tradition of abstract impressionism, varies from haunting and enigmatic to bold, energetic swathes of colour.

Arts in the Garden

An afternoon of history, music, poetry and art exploring memories of the Solitary Islands Marine Park, the 75km of coast, estuaries, reefs, islands and diverse marine life adjacent to the Coffs Coast. Featuring poetry by John Bennett, live music by 60% Water, printmaking workshops, and storytelling by participants from the Solitary Islands Marine Park Oral History Project.

Bring your own picnic rug or chairs and enjoy a barbecue, drinks and afternoon tea in the Museum’s award-winning heritage gardens.

Morning Tea with John Bennett

Artists, writers, thinkers and nature lovers are invited to join John for a morning tea on the final day of the current exhibition at Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery to share and discuss their own experiences of Eos (new beginnings as light starts to overwhelm the darkness). Bring your work to share or just join in the discussion about your feelings, thoughts and inspiration derived from the solitary period at the beginning of each new day.

29th Rotary Cartoon Awards Opening Night

The Bunker Cartoon Gallery brings you the Australian cartoonists’ night-of-nights! Now in its 29th incarnation, the annual Rotary Cartoon Awards is the biggest competition of its kind in Australia and attracts well-known as well as up-and-coming cartoonists from all over the nation. You’ll get the chance to rub shoulders with them and possibly even share a joke or two.

Music by Face on the Moon and our MC is Bernard Caleo, cartoonist and entertainer at CardiganComics.  Finger food, cash bar and raffles…bring $5 notes!

Create NSW staff are visiting Coffs Harbour and are keen to hear from you about the exciting arts, culture and screen projects happening in the region. Bring your project ideas – dreams, concept or fully formed and let the experts from Create NSW guide you through strategic planning, resourcing and potential partners in a collaborative ideas workshop. Come along and meet the new team and also network with other artists from the region.

Sunday Concert Series

Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium is delighted to present a very special professional concert series in our newly renovated Performance Hall. The series celebrates the acquisition of a beautiful new grand piano by Mason & Hamlin, makers of the world’s finest pianos. Five of Australia’s finest pianists and strong advocates of Mason & Hamlin pianos will feature alongside a selection of dynamic and captivating chamber musicians from Melbourne and Brisbane, in exquisite programs designed to delight all fine music lovers.

Vive La France! French Film Festival 2017

Fancy a little French fizz in your step? Something to stretch your cinematic palette?

After enjoying sell-out success last year, Screenwave’s Vive la France! French Film Festival’s program is increasing to 15 films screening at the historic Jetty Memorial Theatre. This year’s program offers an eclectic mixed bag of French delights; from intricate drama, family film, a 50th anniversary classic, off-beat comedy, science fiction and – for the adventurous cinema-goer – boundary-breaking cinema with a taste of the extreme.


There will be an opening night gala event, wine tasting and French food and follies.

Australian Poetry Slam – Coffs Harbour Heat

Speak, scream, howl, whisper even sing your poems, stories, lyrics, and monologues in the Australian Poetry Slam 2017 – a live literary performance competition where the audience
is the judge!
Two finalists from each slam heat or regional final will compete in their state or territory final then head to Sydney for the national final. All Performing Writers are given a microphone, a live audience and just two minutes to impress the judges with their original spoken word, poetry, hip hop, monologues and stories.

30th Annual Art Exhibition and Community Celebration

Lillipilli Art and Craft Exhibition

Woolgoolga Art Group will be holding the annual Lillipilli Art and Craft Exhibition with a $4900 prize pool. This year will introduce a special Mayor’s Prize section themed “The Coffs Coast”. Work can be in any medium and the creator must reside in the Coffs Harbour City Council area.

Melbourne City Ballet: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Melbourne City Ballet brings their newest season,

Save the Date! Curry Fest 2017

Curry Fest is back again for 2017. Save the date and come and join in on the festivities.

Every year for the last eleven years, thousands of people have converged on the beautiful seaside village of Woolgoolga. They are drawn from near and far to honour the unique cultural heritage, music and cuisine of the area in a celebration known as “Curryfest”.  With a variety of cultural entertainment, workshops, kids’ zone with rides and activities, a yoga and meditation zone plus much more, you don’t want to miss it!
